Liberia Community Outreach Launched
LWOB finalised its work in Liberia with the launch of an anti-corruption campaign consisting of posters and tie-pins distributed throughout the courts and to members of the judiciary, bar and law enforcement which supported the message that those wearing the pins would not ask for, nor accept, bribes.
This represented the final stage of LWOB's community outreach component of its rule of law initiative in Liberia which consisted of posting of anti-crime billboards through Monrovia, distribution of dramatic skits on video throughout the country and posters throughout the courts creating a bribe-free zone. The visuals echoed such themes as the difference between bail and bribe, access to justice and the importance of reporting crime. The outreach was orchestrated to reach rural and urban communities throughout the country through television and radio media.
The first phase of LWOB's work, launched with its in-country assessment in early 2005, is now complete and efforts are well underway to develop and launch a program for the follow up phases slated for implementation throughout 2008.
